BMW Group rad°hub x LCAW 2024, London: A 2050 Vision for Regenerative Value

Occasion: BMW Group rad°hub, London Climate Action Week 2024
Participant: Professor Saim Memon, CEO of Sanyou London

What happened?

Professor Saim Memon, CEO of Sanyou London, joined BMW Group’s rad°hub during London Climate Action Week 2024 for a challenge centred on imagining 2050. The think tank brought together participants from diverse disciplines to test ideas that shift value away from simple price and towards societal, environmental and economic impact.

What did the group envision?

We worked towards a community-centric, decentralised and redistributive economic model that rewards regenerative behaviour, prioritises repair and reuse, values biodiversity, and celebrates inclusive communities. The model recognises impact across industries and encourages local resilience alongside global collaboration.

Future statement:
“In 2050, there will be a new community-based economic model which rewards regenerative and socially beneficial behaviour, supporting the reuse of existing resources (enabled by blockchain).”

Why does this matter to Sanyou London?

Because impact needs delivery mechanisms. Sanyou London’s mission unifies academic research and development, industrial manufacturing, and global product distribution to bring Vacuum-Insulation Energy Technologies into everyday use—so value is measured not only in cost, but in lower energy demand, reduced emissions and improved comfort.

Where do vacuum-insulation formats fit this 2050 vision?

  • Vacuum Insulated Wallpaper (VIW): a thin internal layer that cuts heat transfer without taking space—ideal for rapid retrofit in homes, schools and public buildings.
  • Decorative Integrated VIP (DVIP): durable external wall insulation with architectural finishes—practical for estates and commercial sites seeking performance and aesthetics.
  • Flexible VIP designs: conformable insulation for constrained geometries—closing thermal gaps in real buildings and modular infrastructure.

These formats help reduce operational energy and lower carbon now, while aligning procurement with impact-based metrics the rad°hub explored.

What are the next steps?

Insights from rad°hub will inform Sanyou London’s pilot programmes with estates teams, local authorities and suppliers, focusing on:

  • measurable energy savings and comfort improvements;
  • circular, repairable insulation assemblies;
  • transparent impact reporting that links building performance to community outcomes.
